Round One: Blazers vs Mavericks

I’m not gonna lie: for my own selfish journalistic reasons, I was hoping the Blazers would draw the Lakers in the first round. There’s an electric tsunami that follows Kobe Bryant, Phil Jackson and the Lakers everywhere they go, not to mention I dig the way Portland fans go absolutely bannas when that show comes to town.
But not so fast—riding through that storm could still happen in round two. The Blazers have drawn the Mavericks.
The match-ups between the two teams seem to favor Portland. The Blazers guards and wings are simply bigger an longer than their counterparts in Dallas. In Gerald Wallace, Nicolas Batum, LaMarcus Aldridge and Marcus Camby, Portland have a number of quick, lanky defenders to throw at Dirk Nowitzki.
Throughout the week we’ll have all kinds of coverage, so keep checking back. We’ll break down the match ups, look back at the season series, get out to practice, and have a little fun.
Even though the Blazers-Mavericks first round series won’t have those bright lights of the Lakers, it’s going to be something else. For the first time in the last three years, heading into the playoffs, I have hope. The winner of this series is far from pre-ordained.
