ABOUT THE SOCIETY
Because the world really needed another blog dedicated to the Portland Trail Blazers. We're a group of journalists and fans who've grown up with--or have grown to love--Oregon's only professional franchise (and this won't change when MLS comes to town). Plus we're convinced that--if given the chance--we could totally hit the Toyota halfcourt shot. Until then, we're stuck here in the Portland Roundball Society.

Roy to Undergo Arthroscopic Surgery on Both Knees

Take it away press release:

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy will undergo arthroscopic surgery on both knees, it was announced today by General Manager Rich Cho.

The surgery will be performed by Dr. Don Roberts in Vancouver, Wash. next week.

There is no timetable for his return.

“I’m trying to do the best thing I can to get back on the floor,” said Roy. “We’ve been able to get a number of different opinions and it’s something we’ve decided.”

Hope Roy come back and become the player he once was. Let's all hope his knees can recover, and maybe even get new meniscus installed.

I love b-roy. I hope he comes back healthy and ready to go. Does anyone know what the surgery actually is like what are doing to his knee's?

It's not clear to me how this surgery is supposed to help BRoy's knees. Someone drop some knowledge on me.

Yeah, unless there are meniscus transplants, i dont understand whats going on here...

Roy's not having the meniscus transplant. That much I know. He would be the first non retired athlete to have that done during his career if he did. He's having arthroscopic surgery on both. Meaning they'll use a scope to get in their. What they are doing in there?? Sprinkling fairy dust? Saying hello? Most likely they've determined that scar tissue is causing pain and removing it may reduce friction and swelling. But as previously noted, no meniscus means bone on bone, means not ideal for performing essential functions of basketball. And there's no cure for lack of meniscus until transplantation procedures come a looooong way. Or, as I pray (to the spaghetti monster) daily, stem cell research advances to where they can inject you with some meniscus cells and regrow mother natures shock absorbers.
