Because the world really needed another blog dedicated to the Portland Trail Blazers. We're a group of journalists and fans who've grown up with--or have grown to love--Oregon's only professional franchise (and this won't change when MLS comes to town). Plus we're convinced that--if given the chance--we could totally hit the Toyota halfcourt shot. Until then, we're stuck here in the Portland Roundball Society.

ESPN3 FYI

I keep running into friends who haven’t heard about the glory that is ESPN3.com. I used it to watch the World Cup, X Games, and now the FIBA World Championships. Why is it so great? Let me count the ways: 1.) the thing streams in near-high def. Full-screen on a monitor is comparable to the TV. 2.) events are broadcast live, then available on-demand for about a week. This comes in especially handy for games taking place in other time zones (ahem, World Cup & FIBA). 3.) Watching event replays is like TiVo, in that you can skip all the commercials and fluff. 4.) It’s FREE, provided you have the right combination of internet provider, and area.

And just for the record, I’d push this awesome service—the future of video broadcast—even if PRS weren’t an ESPN affiliated blog.

OK then—back to the boring off-season…

100% agree. I stream ESPN3 from my laptop to my HDTV with little shudder. As video compression coding improves, this is how we will watch TV, god willing and the creek don't rise. As I have neutered my cable to local only, this is how I watch ESPN broadcasts.
