At this point the “front-loaded” offer to Paul Millsap last offseason looks clairvoyant as it has already cost the Jazz Eric Maynor and Ronnie Brewer. Putting the screws to the Jazz again by making an offer to restricted free agent Wesley Matthews looks like a move that could have ramifications beyond personnel and can push the Jazz that much farther into the desperate straits of the luxury tax.

There is a case to be made for leaving that player in with the hope that maybe they will impact the game enough that a last defensive stand is unnecessary.
