ABOUT THE SOCIETY
Because the world really needed another blog dedicated to the Portland Trail Blazers. We're a group of journalists and fans who've grown up with--or have grown to love--Oregon's only professional franchise (and this won't change when MLS comes to town). Plus we're convinced that--if given the chance--we could totally hit the Toyota halfcourt shot. Until then, we're stuck here in the Portland Roundball Society.

Brandon Roy Tears Meniscus

The official word on Brandon Roy’s injury:

Further evaluation of MRI of Brandon Roy’s right knee reveals slight meniscus tear. Roy is out for final two games. Day to day for playoffs.

We’ll address this more soon, but a meniscus tear can be quite serious and the odds of Roy being at 100% come playoff time seem quite slim. Plus, it’s an injury that very well might be an issue later in Roy’s career.

Update: 6:54pm Jason Quick tweets:
Blazers source: Would take “remarkable” recovery for Roy to play in the playoffs
As does Adrian Wojnarowski:
Roy will eventually need surgery on knee, but it’s plausible it could be delayed until end of season….

The Blazer's have been a much better team without Roy playing this year. The assists for this game tonight were way up because the team was distributing the ball better. Roy was not hitting the clutch shots this year like previous years. At the end of the games I noticed that Roy would hold on to the ball and try to go one on one(or three) hoping to draw the foul or make an incredible shot. When Andre Miller takes the ball down the paint he is much more effective and dishes off or makes a layup(and foul). As a Blazer Fan, I expect them to go much further in the playoffs without Roy. They are more cohesive and play with nothing to lose and only to win. Go Camby, Batum, Miller, Sergio, Batum, and Aldredge. Go Blazer's and show the world that you can win with all of the injuries that you have had this year.

We all know that the Blazers are not going to risk the future of their franchise player to win a couple of games in the playoffs. They aren't a contender this year anyways without a dominant big man. They need to get healthy and ready for next year. Roy is gonna need to have surgery anyways so he might as well do it now and rehabilitate himself for next year.
