ABOUT THE SOCIETY
Because the world really needed another blog dedicated to the Portland Trail Blazers. We're a group of journalists and fans who've grown up with--or have grown to love--Oregon's only professional franchise (and this won't change when MLS comes to town). Plus we're convinced that--if given the chance--we could totally hit the Toyota halfcourt shot. Until then, we're stuck here in the Portland Roundball Society.

Practice Notes: Familiar Faces Back on the Court

Lost in the caterwaul surrounding today's argument between coach McMillan and Andre Miller is that a number of injured Trailblazers were back on the practice court, albeit in different capacities. Certainly it was a surprise to step into the gym and see this:

You'll notice Nic Batum shooting, Steve Blake in the far court shaking off his pneumonia, Rudy Fernandez looking fine after back surgery, and Travis Outlaw sans boot.

I asked Kevin Pritchard for their ETA's:
Steve Blake: Sunday (likely)
Rudy Fernandez: 7-10 days
Nic Batum: 3rd week of this month
Travis: 8 weeks
Despite that seemingly good news, the Blazers practiced today with just seven players. Brandon Roy sat out with a sore hamstring, LaMarcus Aldridge with lingering ankle soreness, and Andre Miller with a sore back that's been bothering him since the Clippers game Monday. All are expected to play Friday against the Lakers.

Steve Blake, who spent time in the hospital after he was diagnosed with pneumonia, said he "lost about eight pounds, which to me is a lot." At one point during the illness Blake said it was "hard to walk," and that he is still on antibiotics. He did not participate in full practice, but hopes to return Sunday against the Cleveland.

Shorthanded, the team ran three-on-threes, and Fernandez was included in the "contact" portion. A bit more footage of Fernandez running drills along with Patty Mills:

The name of the website is just fine. If you wanna go from an obscure blog to the top of the blogosphere tho you need to recruit fresh new writers such as myself.
