January 5th - A Day To Remember?

Well, you know we're here. And though the Portland Roundball Society "officially" launches on Friday, you're here, and might as well have something to chew on. The idea: that January 5th could become quite an important date. File it somewhere it wont be lost.

Now, we all saw what happened in Portland last night, and have come to our conclusions. (Mine: that Portland, not the refs, blew it. Three straight possessions went Nowhere. Call a play, substitute a fresh Andre Miller, Anything!) But that's just a part of it.

I was in Denver last nite, watching both the Blazers/Grizzlies and Nuggets/Warriors. Just like the Blazers gave away what should've been a win, so did the Warriors. Down one, JR Smith is fouled on a desperation three-point attempt that, if not for the contact, had NO chance going in. Have a look:


And so the records of the top two teams in the Northwest Division swing an entire game. As the saying goes: "the game turns on a trifle." Sometimes two.

One can't help but wonder, if these team's records stay close--remember last year the Blazers and Nuggets tied to share the NW title--that January 5th could become a day that lives in infamy.
